Moling / Watermain Replacement
The big advantage of ‘Moling’ new pipe work through is the limited amount of excavation works required. Generally speaking, on a domestic property, it would require a launch pit of 1m x 500mm x 750mm (depth) at the main stopcock, one at the point of entry to the property, and one halfway between the two. In general terms you need a launch pit every ten metres.
The Mole is sent on its way from the launch pit, and hammers its way through the sub soil by means of a pneumatic/compressed air action, the mole then passes through the centre excavation where any re-alignment can take place, and on to the catch pit next to the foundation of the property. At this point the new pipe work can either be connected to the existing through the foundation, or we can bring new pipe work into the building connecting to the existing stopcock. The alternative to this is to bring an exterior ‘Hockey stick’ (approved Water board insulated housing) up the side of the building and core drill through the cavity inserting a ridged insulated duct, and connecting to the internal pipe work.
We generally use a 50mm Mole for domestic applications, as the pipe work now required is 25mm M.D.P.E for water.
We also carry out industrial/ commercial Water main repairs and full replacement. For pipe from 25mm up to 100mm M.D.P.E
